The Consumer's Association of Canada is, of course, one of the key organisations that monitor complaints against payday loan companies and government regulations that are supposed to protect the rights of consumers. Recently, it has released some information regarding the Payday Loans Regulation of British Columbia that is to be effective on November 1, 2009.
Canadian Payday Loan Association
The Canadian Payday Loan Association (CPLA) is an organisation composed of 22 payday loan companies operating in Canada. Nevertheless, it has been instrumental in policing its ranks and in pushing for regulations instead of fighting them. It has established a Code of Best Business Practices that CPLA members are urged to follow. It also has a Consumer Response and Resolution Bureau to handle consumer complaints. It also offers advice to borrowers on responsible borrowing. It also presents news developments regarding payday loans, legislation, and studies
Credit Counselling Canada
Credit Counselling Canada (CCC) is an organisation of Orderly Payment of Debt programs and non-profit credit counselling agencies. CCC focuses on enhancing consumer awareness of the various counselling programs and the creation of a national standard on offering credit counselling services. The services provided by CCC include counselling, education, and debt repayment programs. The educational services of CCC include seminars, workshops, tip sheets, and brochures on personal budgeting and becoming a wise borrower. When having problems in handling your finances, CCC can help you become a wiser borrower and consumer.
